Efficacy and Mechanism of Action:
Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 (Matrixyl®) (sequence: Pal-Lys-Thr-Thr-Lys-Ser-OH or pal-KTTKS-OH) is a small, highly specific bioactive peptide that is reported to stimulate the production of elastin, fibronectin, glucan, and collagen (especially type I, III, and IV), extracellular matrix support and wound healing. TTKS structure is related to the precursor of type I collagen (or type I procollagen). The stimulating effects of KTTKS on collagen type I and III and fibronectin seem to be mainly related to biosynthetic pathways rather than export or degradation pathways. The molecular weight of KTTKS is 563.64 Da, and the longer pal-KTTKS is 802.05 Da.
